PATCHMASTER / PATCHMASTER NEXT freezes (USB device does not initialize )
Question:
Since today the EPC 10 USB / PG 618 USB does not initialize any more. This is indicated by an unfinished initialization process of the PATCHMASTER (NEXT) /POTMASTER software which means the PATCHMASTER (NEXT) / POTMASTER window "freezes" or crashes. The issue is also monitored on several other devices in our lab.
Answer:
Most probably this issue come along with an update of the Microsoft Defender on your PC or an update of any other internet security software installed. Please notify the respective security software provider and ask them to rectify their faulty updates.
In the meantime HEKA suggests the following workaround:
1. Turn OFF the USB device.
2. Turn OFF any security software analyser or access-checking algorithm or functions (please contact respective provider for details). Please be aware that for some security software it is very complicated to deactivate them completely!
3. Now switch ON the USB device again.
4. Start the PATCHMASTER (NEXT) / POTMASTER software and the device should initialize.
5. Security software: Re-enable any disabled functions.
6. Any initialization procedure afterwards will work, until the USB device is switched OFF again.
In respect to Microsoft Defender you can add exceptions. Follow the instructions in the provided link:

In most cases the exclusion of the "LIH 8+8" USB drive solved the issue.
