EPC 10 USB error: No device. Please check power and connections
Question:
Upon starting PATCHMASTER, the error message:
"EPC 10 USB error: No Device. Please check power and connections."
comes up.
Answer:
Your EPC 10 USB amplifier has a built-in LIH 8+8 interface for data acquisition and stimulation and for controlling the amplifier settings. Please make sure that the amplifier is turned on and that it is connected to a USB 2.0 port of your computer. Some older computers are equipped with USB 1.1 ports, which do not work with EPC 10 amplifiers.
If the amplifier is on and connected to the PC, then please open the "My Computer" dialog (under Windows) or the Finder (on a Mac). If there is a drive with name "HEKA LIH88", then the unit is properly detected by the operating system. If it is not, then please contact our Support team (support@heka.com).
If the amplifier is detected by the OS, then go to the Patchmaster folder and rename the PATCHMASTER configuration file (Patchmaster.set) to "Patchmaster.backup". The next time, PATCHMASTER is started, it will complain, that the default configuration file cannot be found. That's OK, just proceed with "Set Defaults". Make sure to select the "EPC 10 USB" from the list of amplifiers. The "Use AD/DA" box must be checked.
If you still get the same error message, then check either the fuses at the rear panel of the amplifier, try another USB port on your PC or switch of your Internet Security software.
In very rare cases the problem is caused by two running Patchmaster instances in parallel.
In such a case you also get sometime some error message like "EEPROM C-fast table CRC error....". Please close both instances and start only one instance at the time.
