USB device does not initialize
Question:
After installation of security software updates (McAfee, Norton, etc.) some HEKA USB patch clamp amplifier such as EPC 10 USB or EPC 800 USB do not initialize. This is indicated by an unfinished initialization process of the PATCHMASTER software which means the PATCHMASTER window "freezes" or crashes.
Answer:
This problem seems to occur especially on computers with Windows 7. Please notify the respective security software provider and ask them to rectify their faulty updates.
In the meantime HEKA suggests the following workaround:
1. Turn OFF the USB device.
2. Turn OFF any security software analyzer or access-checking algorithm or functions (please contact respective provider for details). Please be aware that for some security software it is very complicated to deactivate them completely!
3. Now switch ON the USB device again.
4. Start the PATCHMASTER software and the device should initialize.
5. Security software: Re-enable any disabled functions.
6. Any initialization procedure afterwards will work, until the USB device is switched OFF again.
